One thing people often think about freelancing is that it requires starting completely from scratch.

In my case, that wasn’t true.

When I left my role as a Training Manager in Malaysia and returned to the Philippines, I realized that many of the skills I developed in corporate life were actually very valuable in the online world.

For example:

Communication Skills
Working with different teams and departments helped me develop strong communication and collaboration skills.

Training and Instructional Design
Designing learning programs prepared me to create structured content, guides, and educational materials.

Project Management
Coordinating training initiatives required planning, organization, and meeting deadlines.

Digital Tools
Many training programs already used online tools, presentations, and digital resources.

These skills transitioned naturally into services like:

  • Instructional design

  • Virtual assistance

  • Digital content creation

  • Video editing

  • Website support

Freelancing didn’t erase my corporate experience, it expanded it.
